Convention Speech: David Zublick
I have been a conservative almost all of my life. Many young people who are now conservatives start out as liberals, what with their heads full of mush as Rush would say being indoctrinated by liberal educators. This liberal indoctrinization can last throughout grade school high school and through the college years. Then somewhere, along the way, something happens to change their way of thinking. It has been said that a conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged. Whether it be noticing that you are being taxed to the hilt, or seeing some ridiculous pork barrel project or entitlement program that just goes beyond the pale, at some point, you just wake up and realize that you no longer think like a leftist.
But that’s not he way it happened to me. From the time I was 12 years old, I knew where I stood politically. I knew that I wanted the least amount of government possible. I knew I wanted the main function of government to be the protection of this nation and its citizens, with minimal amount of government regulation, so as to allow for what the founding fathers intended for its citizens. The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I have never strayed from that philosophy. To me, Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of my lifetime to date.
I spent a few years in terrestrial radio, and have been hosting a talk show on the Internet since 1999. I have used a number of different platforms and venues, none of which really was fulfilling as an outlet for conservative thought. Most Internet radio portals are music oriented, and those that offer talk, treat it as a bastard child and don’t really promote it. Or the choices they offer for talk are what I call pablum, junk talk that does not address true political issues. I spent a great deal of time on Live 365, and although I garnered a loyal following, it was not the audience I had hoped to reach.
I pretty much had planned on giving up doing conservative talk radio after the November 2006 midterm elections, in which the democrats swept both houses of congress. I had begun to believe that conservatism as a political philosophy had died, and that we as a nation were destined to become like much of
At some point, however, I realized that what happened in 2006 was not the result of conservatism taking a walk. Rather, I came to understand that Republicanism had abandoned its conservative roots.
In April of 2007, by chance, I discovered BlogTalkRadio. How I came across it I can’t honestly say I remember, perhaps just some search engine. I had tried to find other conservative outlets in the past, not with much success. Either there was nothing approaching conservative thought, or the platform was just not conducive to achieving an audience. But BlogTalkRadio was different. It was refreshing in that it had a variety of program content, some of which was conservative. And the hosts I was listening to were actually putting out a very professional product, one which kept me coming back to listen again and again.
I decided to begin hosting my program on BlogTalkRadio in May of 2007. To my amazement, my show as well received. Through doing a show on this network, I met articulate and informed critical thinkers who truly cared about this country and what it stood for. The hosts, callers and listeners on BlogTalkRadio are more than just that. They are a cohesive community (rather, a family) who understand what it means to be an American.
I realize that even among families, there can be rifts. Differences of opinion, even among those of like mind. All of the conservative hosts on BlogTalkRadio are true patriots who love their country. But there can be differences of opinion on certain issues and candidates. There had been, for a time, a rift among Republicans over the choice of this year’s presidential nominee, John McCain. Many felt him to not be a true representative of conservative values. This rift threatened to divide us, which would be extremely dangerous in a time when our country faces what I believe to be a grave threat from one of the most dangerous presidential candidates ever to run for the highest office in the land: Barack Hussein Obama. Some of us actually considered voting for a third party, despite the fact these parties bring a lot of lunacy to the table, gain no traction, and do nothing but take away votes from candidates who are the only thing standing in the way of turning this land into a Marxist country.
Recently, Rick Warren hosted a civil forum at his Saddleback Church between John McCain and Barack Obama. Each was asked a series of questions relating to social issues that would affect people of faith. It was clear from the beginning that John McCain acquitted himself well, with answers that made it completely obvious that to not support him in this critical year, would be unthinkable. I for one, cannot and will not be responsible for helping to elect a Marxist like Barack Obama into office.
The Republicans in congress have also stepped up to the plate with the dontgo movement, vowing to remain in Washington awaiting the return of the prodigal daughter Nancy Pelosi and her minions of liberal democrats, to take a vote on an energy bill that will push for research into alternative sources of energy, while allowing for oil drilling domestically. This has reinvigorated the republicans, making us once again proud of our party.
We stand at a crossroads in the history of our nation. We have an opportunity to save and preserve what our founding fathers had planned for these United States . We have an obligation..a duty to come together and fight for our country and all that it stands for. And this forum…this venue that is BlogTalkRadio enables us to form an unstoppable juggernaut that will carry forth the conservative movement and see to it that nothing will put it asunder.
I for one am proud to stand with my fellow conservative hosts, callers and listeners in saying the United States of America is the greatest nation on earth. And BlogTalkRadio will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in keeping it that way. God Bless the USA.
Convention Speech: Shane from Political Vindication Radio
It has been an amazing year. It started with our political athletes posing for pictures a year before the elections, and who wants to watch Bill Richardson pose for anything? It’s always too early for that! So we watched the Democrats most greedy for power line up against each other, and it was like pitting a protestor against Al Frankin – pandemonium ensued. We had mad Hillary singing about being tired in black churches and Bill Clinton getting chased out of them. Then there was John Edwards doing his part to repopulate the two
But it wasn’t all fun. Our party has drifted from the principles that made them. The candidates that took to the debate stages all talked the talk, but few walked it. Conservatives were looking for a leader who would once again teach and lead this country back to the values that made us the great nation we are. What we have come to learn is that no matter who is leading our party, the power is in our hands, not some blue suit in
There’s a reason this country still has a backbone, and has fought its way toward victory in
We demanded drilling in
But there’s one thing we won’t budge from – and that is that we don’t need a earth-bound messiah – no
But as long as there are patriots like the ones I see here tonight, I’ll know that freedom has its defenders. There is something different about us, us BlogTalkRadio minutemen and women. Instead of whining and moaning about the state of the country, we’ve gotten on the phone and on the internet and built a community. We go a step further, read a little longer, study a little harder and think a little deeper. We’re not your average citizen. From across the country and over the borders we are drawn together like firefighters to the fire, but we’re not here to put the fire out – we’re here to feed it. We know what the stakes are in November, and where the action is you will find us.
But I will make you this promise. That every time I see a soldier eating at a restaurant, I’ll make sure he doesn’t pay the bill. When I see a flag flying I will say a prayer for America. Every cemetery I pass I will thank those before me to built the country I love. That I will teach the children around me why this nation deserves our love. And I will promise that I will never forget the trust that our founders put in our hands – citizen soldiers. We are the greatest, freest, and most generous country in the history of mankind, and it’s our duty to pass this country to our children better than we found it! God Bless America!
Convention Speech: Scott from South Cackalacky
Good evening ladies and gentlemen. It is my distinct honor and privilege to speak to you tonight.
First I would like to praise and thank God Almighty and pray to give Him the ultimate honor and glory in the following words.
Tonight I want to talk to you about hope.
Hope is defined in two ways: As a noun, it is the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best. As a verb, it is to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence. In its origin, some etymologists even connect hope to the word hop…as in leaping to expectation.
But right now, in America, hope has been bantered around so much that its meaning has been disconnected from the American heart. Hope is currently in use as a campaign slogan. Furthermore, this slogan is indicative of the candidate it represents. You see, to the Democratic party, hope is an empty word that they want us to believe in because that would mean that this great nation isn’t the best and hasn’t been worthy of our loyalty.
But to me, and many of my fellow conservatives, hope has become more than just a campaign slogan from the opposition. It has become a klaxon, a red alert, a call to arms. In 1775, Patrick Henry spoke, “it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts.”
You see, I believe this nation has been, is and will be the greatest nation this world has ever known. The “great experiment” that was born 232 years ago has long shown true success. By God’s grace, we have survived so very much, much more than other, longer-lived nations could. And that is what gives me hope. Not hope to change everything at the expense of the fruition of our greatest strides or even our tremendous struggles. But hope to continue the great successes we have had, hope to venture into and conquer he unknown and hope that we can and will improve upon those things in which there is always room for improvement.
In this year’s election we can secure prosperity and security by doing our duty at the ballot. And because prosperity and security are potentially so untenable if the liberals gain the white house, it is imperative for every Conservative and Republican to cast a vote for Senator John McCain.
I will choose and trust John Sydney McCain. I absolutely trust him over Barack Obama in two key areas.
1. McCain has promised to nominate Supreme Court judges that will respect the constitution, and not legislate from the bench.
2. McCain will deal with the war on terror in a way that will keep America safe. Of the two candidates, if such a horrific situation arises, John McCain is the only one who has had the life experiences to handle another surprise terrorist attack similar or worse to 9/11.
Barack Obama has placed himself in the light as a deity of destiny. Yet like Fortuna, the goddess of fate, Barack Obama is worshipped as a symbol of blessing by some but in truth is a capricious demagogue with a life surrounded by dark and evil people.
As with most demagogues under the banner of liberalism, the issues are again ignored in favor of an idol. It seems that more and more people tend to think that as long as the idol gets the power, the issues will be resolved. Consequently, the only time that happens is in totalitarian governments. And the result is the loss of liberty and even life.
Look at how great America truly is. This great country has again and again risen to greatness because of how its people dealt with the issues of their respective times. It has been about how individuals rose up to meet obstacles head on with a singularly AMERICAN determination to make the fight matter for the country and its future.
The democrats want increasing power to manage the government, the states, the counties, the towns, the homes…and even the individual. Barack Obama and his liberal contemporaries not only want you to look to the government for all of your answers but also want to make sure that you will not have any non-governmental resources to access…. including yourself.
You see, my friends, we do have the hope of choice right here and right now. And that hope can only be answered by casting a vote for John McCain.
There are some conservatives who think this nation will be better served by not voting or voting for a third party candidate so that the next election around, Conservatism will again be a rallying cry that will be answered. However…
We’re not talking about doing that during a peace time where the threat to American security is non-existent or even minor. And we are also not talking about a democratic candidate like Mondale, Hart, Gephardt, Bradley, Kerry, Edwards or even Gore.
Were talking about a time when American security and prosperity are at the precipice of remaining strong or falling to the whims of the most liberal senator on record should he become president.
This is Barack Hussein Obama we’re really talking about. And there is too much at stake in the safety and security of American lives to allow the election of a Marxist as president to prove a point. To me, proving the point to the voters that a left leaning government is a bad thing should not be at the risk of the very lives of those voters.
Barack Obama, the true Obama would show who he really is as president: a man who was raised with the teachings of Islam, a man who was mentored by Marxists, a man who thinks that evil dictators can be convinced to behave, a man with the most liberal voting record in American history.
In other words, a vote for a third party candidate or not voting at all may send a message to Republicans that they need to return to and embrace the conservative tenets that this country does need. But those choices would essentially also be an immediate and resounding vote:
- FOR Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-il, and Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías
- FOR abortion on demand, the eradication of traditional marriage and family, and the elimination of freedom of religion
- FOR a weak national security and defense
- FOR a healthcare system that will kill more people that it will truly and fully help
- FOR further American dependence on other nations for energy and resources and a cessation to utilizing the guaranteed resources we already have.
- FOR a maliciously permanent change in the right of citizens to bear arms
- FOR a realistic resurgence of communism as a potential form of government in this country
John McCain DOES understand executive leadership by the constraints of the Constitution. He DOES have a proven understanding of what it means to act as commander-in-chief. And he DOES believe that a republican form of government is the best hope for America.
Alexander Hamilton said, “A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one.” And if we choose disgrace on election day by letting Barack Obama win, then a master IS what we will have in the white house.
Like him or not, want him or not. John McCain is still a far better choice than risking the loss of what the founding fathers died for by electing a candidate who has promised to destroy it by his proposed executive actions and decisions.
We do have the hope of choice, not because of hope itself, but because the choice we make will truly determine the hope of America.
Thank you and May Almighty God be forever praised as He blesses this great nation and its people. Good night.
Convention Speech: Loon and Vince
This year's election, more than any other in recent memory, is highlighting what is fast becoming the new "Great Divide" of American politics; which is why the Left are fast leaving behind any pretense of loving this great Nation. That love, or what used to be called patriotism, has always been as natural a part of any Presidential candidate as breathing. Yet, no one is able to explain just why that is missing from the makeup of Sen. Barack Obama.
It is too easy to say that the reason is his coming from a broken home...spending a part of his formative years outside of the United States...or surrounding himself with those who have their own reasons for being less-than-enthusiastic in their love of America. More than anything else, his true feelings are evidenced by his refusal to visit wounded Troops at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany; unless he could be accompanied by a full contingent of the Press Corps. That one action, or lack thereof, should be the wake-up call that all undecided voters need and should be the uniting force for all Conservatives. That one action, or lack thereof, should prove to even the most cynical that putting down America has become more than a fad or an invention of the MSM.........it has turned into a thought process that is just as much of a threat to America as terrorism...if not more so.
Yet the question remains: Why does the Right feel such deep a deep and natural patriotism that the Left doesn't?
Answer: If there were just one easy answer, I'd be very wealthy.
The answer is that there isn't just one answer.................maybe it's because a majority of us were raised by people who never expected the Government to be our Nanny............maybe it's because a majority of us attended schools where patriotism was taught just as much as the "3 R's"............maybe it's because we were exposed to a media who presented the news in a much more fair and balanced light than the MSM of today............and maybe, just maybe, it's because a majority of us grew up in an America governed by those who remembered, or who had seen first hand, the alternative.
Loving America, and all for which she stands, is more than mere words. If only words or a dusty sentiment that had no relevance to today, then why would so many thousands of young men and women continue to volunteer to lay down their lives to defend her Constitution? Why would so many thousands of people from all walks of life and from all over the world try so hard to immigrate, LEGALLY, to America? Why would so many world leaders of countries with pitiful records of human rights abuses continue to be afraid of the democratic republic of these United States? And...................why would so many terrorists all over the world do their best to try and destroy her? The enemy from within is alive and well and it's up to all of us on the Right to win this latest war and prove to the Left that loving America is right........is just......is of benefit to everyone, not only Americans.........and is important to ALL Americans......every man, woman, and child.........every race, creed, and social stature......................and every political stripe.
Because it's just that important and is what each and every American OWES this great nation.
MAY GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS......MAY GOD BLESS US ALL....MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA.
Convention Speech: Fausta Wertz
When you asked me to say something tonight, I was posting on the news that Daddy Yankee had endorsed McCain. Daddy Yankee is a Puerto Rican singer. He sings reggeton, a combination of reggae, rap and who knows what else, and he's hugely popular among Spanish speakers in the US. According to the Washington Post, his album El Cartel: The Big Boss, was the most popular record in all Latin music categories, according to Billboard Magazine.
This is not particularly remarkable because a lot of celebrities endorse politicians, but what's interesting is that, as soon as the news came out yesterday, he came under a lot of flack. A lot of people have criticized him , and the gist of the criticism is that he is Hispanic, and that he is endorsing McCain who is a Republican. Daddy Yankee endorsed McCain at a public high school and he said, "I believe in his ideals and proposals to lead this nation."
The endorsement shows three things: first of all, Daddy Yankee saying that he believes in McCain, of course, but also in his ideals and proposals, and in McCain's leadership. So I thought it was interesting that he'd had so much negative feedback on that, and this evening there was a live chat at Univision and there were several people criticizing him. Now, the Democrats assume that, since he's Hispanic, he should be with the Democrats. There's a number of interesting things to ponder here. First of all there's no such thing as "Hispanic". The moment any of us who come from a Latin American country leaves the US, we go back to being Puerto Rican, or Mexican, or whatever. Daddy Yankee, being an American citizen, can vote if he has a permanent residence in any of the fifty states, so I don't see why there should be any debate as to why he's endorsing anyone of either party anyway. Do celebrity endorsements count? If you look at the reaction he's getting, maybe they do.
The larger issue is this problem of identity politics that we've had in this campaign. This has been a two-year campaign and the Democrats have been firing the flames of racism by constantly carping on identity politics. They haven't stopped. The Democrat party assumes that minorities should flock to them because they are the party of government and handouts, the party of dependence.
What the Democrats don't see is that immigrants (and I'm counting Puerto Ricans as immigrants even when they are American citizens from birth) come to the US searching for opportunity.
Not jobs, not money: Opportunity.
A person searching for opportunity, first of all, is self-reliant; is an independent thinker; and is a person who understands the value of money, and who will resent punitive taxation as soon as they are making enough money to be in a higher tax bracket. Additionally, Hispanics (and I'm using the term in general, for convenience) share values that may not agree with Democrat policy, such as: Religion; Catholics, evangelicals, Christians are a large segment of the so-called Hispanic group. They are family-oriented, less inclined to vote for abortion on demand and also less inclined to support gay marriage and are patriotic and have a sense of duty. Hispanics are overrepresented in the Marines.
So the Republican party really is, in this day and time, the big tent, it's the party where every individual is respected, where every individual is not a member of a faceless group, where every individual is appreciated for deciding what candidate is best because the Republicans want you to decide for yourself, not for the plantation in which a party official wants you to remain.
In the privacy of the voting booth you vote your conscience, no matter who you are. No matter who you are, you should vote. You should take on every duty your citizenship brings. You should work every opportunity this country, which is the best country in the world, offers. Because the American dream is the dream of every individual working every day to make their dreams come true.
